Lately I have been reading a lot. I guess I always did read in the morning and at night but never things that really had much of an impact on my life. Scrolling through facebook and reading articles that may or not be true just don’t seem to be as justifying as sitting down with a book and completing it. I have plenty of books from years past that I’ve started and put down after the first few chapters. Not because I didn’t think they were great but I just didn’t set aside the time to pick them up and read.
I am off to a good start on my reading list this year and I am loving it! I feel uplifted, inspired, and motivated to learn and fill my mind with positive energy. A few weeks ago I finished reading “Uninvited”. You can read about that journey here. Then I picked up a book that I started last year called “Quitter” by Jon Acuff.
Let me start by saying I am incredibly blessed in the fact that my day job was and still is my dream job. Really, we are so grateful for the gifts that God has given us and the opportunities to pursue them. A few years ago I looked back at the letter my grams wrote me when I was getting ready to graduate high school. She said that she hoped I would marry a wonderful man who loved me dearly and that I would get to have my dream job as a music teacher. It is rather humbling to look back at and see that we have just that and so much more.
From high school and then through college Robert and I developed a love for photography. Little did we know it would blossom into the successful wedding photography business that it is today. We feel so honored to be able to capture these special cherish-able moments for all of our wonderful couples! We love the joy on a wedding day and the excitement that planning a life together brings to us as our couples plan for not only their big day but their wedding too.
So, I read a book called Quitter and I’m sure you’re thinking OK, Courtney so which “day job” are you going to quit. Well right now, I’m not. Life is such a journey of possibilities and blessings and at the end of the day I am so thankful for a day job that I don’t dread. I walk into my classroom and no matter how I may be feeling those sweet little voices bring me joy. As a mom, I can look at them and know that those little smiles mean the absolute world to someone and I am blessed with the oppertunity to bring music into their lives.
According to the quiz at the end of Quitter, we might be ready but for right now we are going to keep pressing forward with the many blessings we have been given. We are working hard to find some sort of organized balance. We schedule family time and make sure we always have time to answer emails and plan, exciting engaging lessons for our students.
For right now, we will continue to enjoy the adventure of being wedding photographers, music teachers, and of course mommy and daddy to our sweet boy. We couldn’t be more thankful for all of the joy that each oppertunity brings to our life and we hope that we can share some of our joy with you!
