8 Hours of Wedding Day Coverage

As wedding photographers we have found that 8 hours tends to be the average amount of time needed to capture your wedding day. There are a few cases where you may need more than 8 hours but typically 8 is perfect. Today we are going to share just what 8 hours of wedding day coverage covers and when you may need a little additional time for your wedding day.

An 8 hour wedding day typically covers from details and getting ready through the traditional dances and at least 30 minutes of open dance on your wedding day. Robert and I arrive about two hours before your ceremony. I go with the ladies and soon after Robert meets up with the gentlemen. After getting into your dress, we will either schedule time for a first look or a few portraits of you and the bridesmaids. Then we will give you time to relax and freshen up while we get in place for the ceremony.

Directly after the ceremony, we will take family formals. Then if you haven’t taken your portraits yet we will schedule driving time and portrait time for both of you and your bridal party. Following portraits you will enter your reception. From there we often share an optional timeline to look over with your DJ. It typically includes time for dinner, dances, cake cutting, and open dance. We love to end the evening with golden hour portraits before we leave for the evening.

When do couples need more time?

Most often we find more time is needed for one of the two reasons.

  1. There is a lot of drive time. Whether that be from the getting ready location to the ceremony location or from the ceremony to the reception.
  2. You have an early ceremony time or full mass. Often times a mass is longer and earlier in the day. When there is a larger gap in the middle of the day at least 9-10 hours is typically needed for your wedding day.

We designed our experience to easily allow you to add on additional hours up front or closer to your wedding day if you find you need more time when we look over your timeline.
