Tips for Family Formals with Divorce

We are here to help you make family formals as stress free as possible. This particular post was a special request from one of our amazing couples. I knew right away that this was a topic that could be helpful for many. We always want to do all we can to help make your wedding day feel less stressful.  We know that sometimes divorce can make groupings a little different and harder to navigate. No worries, we are here to help.

  1. Talk to your family. Be open and honest with them before the wedding day.
  2. If there are sensitive situations that we should be aware of please let us know. We can create a list to keep things as peaceful as possible.
  3. List everyone’s first name as well so that we know who we are looking for when grouping people. Having first names makes this much easier and more comfortable to navigate for everyone.

That being said, here are some of the combinations that we often see on a wedding day with divorced parents.

  • Bride and Groom with Bride’s Mom and Step Father
  • Bride and Groom with Bride’s Mom and Step Father and siblings
  • Bride and Groom with Bride’s Mom
  • Bride with Bride’s Step father
  • Bride with Bride’s Mom
  • Bride and Groom with Bride’s Mom and Dad
  • Bride and Groom with Bride’s Dad and Step Mother and siblings
  • Bride and Groom with Bride’s Dad
  • Bride with Bride’s Dad
  • Bride with Bride’s Step Mother
  • Bride and Groom with ALL parents (this could be including the groom’s parents as well)

We hope this helps as you navigate putting together your family formal list. Once again please just be upfront with us and your family and we will keep things moving along gracefully and with a smile on our faces. We want to capture these precious moments for you will ALL of your loved ones.
