We offer complimentary engagement sessions with all of our Wedding Experience packages because we strongly believe in the value of getting to work with our couples behind the camera before their wedding day! Here are a few reasons we find them so valuable!

  1. We LOVE getting to know our couples before their wedding day! This is truly so invaluable to us that we literally give away a  session to make sure we get to have this time with our couples to get to know them. That way when we show up on your wedding day, you know who we are and so does your groom! You can be excited to see us and you can feel like we are much more  a part of your day instead of the random person in the corner.
  2. So you can get used to being behind the camera. Every photographer works a little differently. Some give more direction while others are much more candid. It is so nice for you to get all of the nerves out before your wedding and get a feel for what it is like to be behind our cameras. Then come wedding day you know exactly what to expect come portrait time!
  3. We get to see how the two of you interact. We have a system to help you relax and some core poses that we typically start with for everyone. But some fit some couples better than others. For example when a groom is 6’5″ and his bride is 5’4″ they may not be comfortable posing forehead to forehead. These are little details that we love to make note of at the engagement session. When we already know where to start it makes the wedding day portraits feel even more natural and instead of feeling posed on your wedding day the time instead becomes relaxed and fun! What a great chance to just enjoy each other and take in all of the excitement off on your own for a little while! We are always watching to see how you interact naturally to create genuine portraits for you!
  4. We can get a feel for what you love. We always ask our brides and grooms if there is anything they want us to know or be aware of while taking pictures. Maybe you like one side of your face more or you’re arms make you slightly self conscious. No worries, we will take care of you! Don’t be afraid to let us know. This allows for you to get it off your chest and relax and it helps us be a little more aware of anything that we can pay special attention to to be sure that you will not only feel gorgeous but that you will remember those happy relaxed feelings and look back on your pictures and see your joy shinning through as well!
  5. You have beautiful images of the two of you. For the first few years of our marriage I displayed not only wedding pictures but also our engagement pictures. I no longer wanted to have “snap shots” or selfies… (these may very well still exist in some parts of our home. =))  Smaller frames, sure but once we moved into our new home it was so nice to have beautiful images to display. They reminded me of our beginnings and of course one of the happiest days of our lives. Even today we have both engagement and wedding pictures out in our home and I can’t wait to update them with anniversary images and now some family portraits with little Max too!

Overall, having this time together helps us all know each other and our goal is to capture your wedding day in a way that is genuine to you! We want you to be able to trust us, relax, and enjoy yourself. Once you know what the picture experience is like it is once less thing to have to think about on your wedding day. When we arrive you will know that we are going to take care of capturing your special memories and you can sit back and take it all in! So let’s start planning! We love helping our couples come up with the perfect vision for their engagement session! I can’t wait to talk to you about the perfect location and outfits that fit your personal style!
