We have seen a variety of special traditions during wedding ceremonies and while many are very common some are not. While you are planning we wanted to share some common traditions as well as some more unique ones for you to consider for your ceremony!

The Rose Ceremony where bride and groom to roses to their mothers. A less traditional version of this ceremony is to have a line of family members process down the aisle and give the flowers to one person to create a family bouquet and symbolize the importance of these people in their lives. Two of these roses could then still be given to the Mothers as well.

The sand ceremony has become very popular. It is a lovely picture of how when you mix the sand they are permanently together. Many times people start with one solid color to show that their relationship is built on the Lord or sometimes mothers lay this foundation as well. We have also seen blended families provide colors for the children as well to represent the coming together of their whole family.

The Quilt Ceremony is a very sweet, meaningful, and useful way to show the support of all family and friends in the foundation of a marriage. Each family member brings a piece of fabric to the shower and the quilt is then stitched together using the fabric that was provided by family and friends as well as fabric that represents significant things in the couple’s life. It is a beautiful picture of placing the love of all of the family and friends on the couple. They would then have this for their home to use throughout their marriage and remind them of the love and support of all of their loved ones.

The Rope Ceremony is where both mothers hold three strings. Each string represents the bride, the groom, and God. When they are braided together they create a strong bond that can not be broken when all three are intertwined together. It is a beautiful picture of a marriage built on the foundation of the Lord. This could also be done with four colors for each mother to symbolize the family foundation.

There are so many different elements that can be included to help make your ceremony unique to you. For our wedding Robert wrote me a song and sang it for me. I don’t think there was a dry eye in the room and it was so sweet and meaningful. Some prefer simple ceremonies and others want to select details that are more detailed and show a picture of the journey they are about to begin. Either way be sure that your ceremony is perfect for you and your soon to be husband! This is a very important part of your day as you recite your vows and proclaim your life long commitment to each other.
